Advantage

The Alnico magnet is the magnetic element with the highest stability at extreme temperatures, that is, it maintains all its magnetic properties between -250ºC and 425ºC, ensuring a high thermal resistance. (In the case of neodymium magnets, the maximum working temperature is 200°C)

This alloy composed of aluminum, nickel and cobalt, has a high level of magnetic induction but a lower coercivity.

Although new stronger materials and cheaper solutions have emerged, alnico magnets continue to incorporate a special property, have a lower coercive field that enables magnetization and demagnetization, with low power.

The magnetic orientation of these products must be carried out during their heat treatment, ensuring a magnetic field with the direction of magnetization defined. The force that alnico magnets can provide is the most similar and comparable to neodymium magnets.

Another great advantage is its resistance to chemical products, such as acids or solvents, and its good oxidation behavior.

The horseshoe Alnico magnet is the best known product thanks to its design that is assigned to describe a conventional magnet.

Work temperature

The working temperature is the most significant characteristic of this type of magnets, made with Alnico.

They present a great stability to extreme temperatures, conserving all of their magnetic characteristics in a range of very extensive temperatures that ranges from -250ºC to 425ºC, reaching a Curie point of 850ºC.

ico-titleAPPLICATIONS:

The high temperatures with which alnico magnets can work, together with the thermal resistance and its great strength opens a wide range of possibilities in different industrial sectors. Being a perfect alternative to materials such as neodymium or ferrite.

ico-titlePRODUCTION PROCESS:

There are two production processes of alnico magnets: casting and sintering.

The production process starts at the weighing, a phase with some importance because we must ensure the exact composition and avoid errors to certify the quality of the magnet, excluding oxidation and different impurities in the raw material.

Next, we go to the fusion process where it will be confirmed that the material is completely melted and will be poured into a mold. Then, we proceed to clean the product obtained, separating the sand from the molding. The manufacturer identifies the quality and composition of the alnico magnet, thanks to the white color level.

Then, the product is passed to heat treatment, a very delicate step, since the magnet can break. It is essential to use the exact temperature and duration, since they will provide the magnet with protection against possible oxidation or deformation. Once the heat treatment has been carried out, an orientation treatment is started with a sufficiently large magnetic field.

To finish with the production process of the Alnico magnet, the aging process will be executed, consisting of three phases and duration of more than 25 hours. Once this process is done, the magnet will be magnetized and ready to be used.
